In the memory of Dan Meinking

In the memory of Dan Meinking

I heard with great sadness that Dan Meinking passed away, Friday Nov. 23 at age 52. He was a strong american composer, FIDE Master in Chess Composition, an innovator and a great friend. He was also the soul of this forum. A couple of days before death, he discovered a matrix named "moved Zeller trap" (see the topic Overall Records with Promoted Force). May he rest in peace. I opened this topic to commemorate Dan in our manner: posting problems with dedication.

This problem was checked by Eric Huber with Winchloe, ser-s Clouage absolu et effectif 110. It is not a record of length (for 19 units we have 117 moves), but it shows a R promotion followed by a R sacrifice.

A little puzzle for the Enthusiastic kindness of this gentlemen I met on this site.
I think that he would have appreciated it.

it's interesting to note than the last problem can propose a pleasant twin :

Both positions are C+ (Popeye). It's amazing that Dominique found quickly a twin and this cute problem has actually two authors. Thank you Mečislovas and Dominique.

I'm sorry but i find an horrible cooking of my : aser-h=5 (5+2) above ( It's a pity, it pleased me well)
Of course: it's an sh=4 ( without check and parry or anti parry !)

1.c5! 2.Kd6 3.Ke7 4.Kd8 Qxc5= SO TRIVIAL!! Shame on me !!

tested by popeye with [ Pser-hs#5 + Condition VogtlaenderChess] This issue was not found
I try to find a correction. Saddened for those who wasted time on this try !

A little of reflexion has me allowed to correct my try by the addition of a pawn f7.
Because in a solution the Queen crosses by this case ( =capture the pawn)
And in the other the queen stops on f6 (blocking of the pawn) it must work. ( It work! but not exactly by this way ! )

we have to split the problem in twins to preserve the variants and the caméleon

an anti-parry serie
In the memory of Dan Meinking

Solution: show

b) 1.Kd5*e6+ Re2-f2 2.Ke6-e7+ Qb4-d4 3.Ke7-e8+ d7-d8=B 4.Ke8-d7+ Qd4*f6 5.Kd7-e8 Kb7*c7 =

@Dominique, there was no cook in your earlier version (that is obviously much better!) as the end position in your "orthodox cook" is only "orthodox" but is no stalemate with Auto-Parry rules! Black could still play Kxd7 or Ke7... Thus, Popeye was right when showing only the two intended solutions!

Thank you very much Arno, you are in agreement with Paul Rãican & Nicolas Dupont on This interpretation of the condition.

Thanks to you (three) for your help and your advice.

Dominique Forlot... Happy that this probleme is C +
