The theme of the tourney was Grid Chess and Rundlauf. The only way to bring the two black pieces to a1 and b1, thus forcing the black move WEa1-b1, is to first bring the black pawn to h2, as then the black vizir can be moved next to the pawn being “parked” on that square. If doing this directly, as in the try, it takes two moves too many. Therefore, the black vizir is first “parked” on h1, and although the black pawn unwillingly is brought even further away from h2, this requires fewer moves! Multiple rundlaufs with mostly 61 (but also 63) moves, and two times only 4 moves (between moves 153 and 156, as well as 3504 and 3507).

The previous length record for 3 pieces (Cornel Pacurar, ser-a=>b 4032 moves) has been included into an article written by Itamar Faybish 1 year ago, to finally appear in a few days now in feenschach!
